Sculptor NIKOLAY POGORELOV

Sculpture of small forms, with a concentrated plastic, coming from the style of Moore, Sidur, Silis, peculiarly refracts the Russian folk traditions of wooden sculpture and combines them with the terse brevity of modern stylistics.

Oriental motifs are interweaving into the Slavic imagery as well as features of magical realism, forcing one to think about associations with the art of power: ancient amulets and ancestor totems.

The sculptor was born in 1951 in Vorkuta (Russia). He studied at the Arkhangelsk Technical School of Communications.

Participated in the annual exhibitions of Vorkuta from 1991 to 1997.

He lives in the village of Orlovskie Dvoriki, Dzerzhinsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia
